Intro to Game Design

A brief history of vidoegames

Video games can trace their roots back to 1947 when Thomas Goldsmith and Estlemann filed for a patent known as cathode ray tube amusement device. All that the device did was was allow the user to control a knob that position a CRT beam on a screen. This was regarded as the player and the “game” gave the player limited time to hit an airplane. The game used no memory, computer or programming. As you can see, games have come a long way since 1947.

Video games have been around for over 50 years but have had quite a transformation. We have come a long way from the once pixelated creatures on Atari to the complete 3D worlds of Call of Duty and Fortnight.
